Mutual cooperation project with Oita Prefecture Nakatsu City

In AY 2023, as in previous years, Keio collaborated in holding the Nakatsu Citizens Lectures at the New Nakatsu City School and the 15th Nakatsu City Archives Lectures. The Nakatsu Citizens Lectures were planned together with Nakatsu City officials under the theme of “Women, Academia, and Society: The Eyes of Yukichi Fukuzawa.” They focused on Umeko Tsuda on July 8 and the Meiji 6 Society (Meirokusha) on November 25. For these sessions, Keio sent a moderator, lecturer, and discussants. The Nakatsu City Archives Lectures were held from August 23 for four nights and five days. Three lecturers and four TAs were sent from the Fukuzawa Memorial Center for Modern Japanese Studies. Other joint research projects included a survey of the Tokujiro Obata Collection at the Fukuzawa Memorial Hall and a survey of Japanese, Chinese, and Western books from the late Edo period to the Meiji period at the Nakatsu City Library.
