Collaboration for the purpose of bringing polar science into education at SFC

Since the 2019 academic year, we have offered special classes on polar science at the Faculty of Environment and Information Studies. These classes have featured guest lecturers from the National Institute of Polar Research, and incorporated live broadcasts from the South Pole and Antarctica’s Showa Station. Even outside of the classroom, Keio has sought to create new spaces at SFC for research and education on the polar regions through initiatives such as guided tours to the National Institute of Polar Research's Antarctic and Arctic Science Museum, and by opening its experimental facilities for summer sabbatical research projects. In June 2021, an agreement was signed to further strengthen such collaborations. Throughout the academic year, efforts were made in light of the impact of the spread of COVID-19 to focus on collaborations with a focus on online classes.
