Collaboration for the purpose of bringing polar science into education at SFC

Since the 2019 academic year, we have offered special courses on polar science at the Faculty of Environment and Information Studies. During these courses, faculties from National Institute of Polar Research were invited to give special lectures, and we also delivered a live broadcasting from Syowa Station, the Japanese Antarctcic Research Station. Keio has brought Polar Science into research and education at SFC and we also carried out education outside the classroom, utilizing the Polar Science Museum and the laboratory facilities of National Institute of Polar Research in Tachikawa-city. In June 2021, an agreement was signed to further strengthen such collaborations. Throughout the academic year, SFC students carried out Antarctic research activities using the facilitlies and the samples stored at National Institute of Polar Research.
