Research to promote proactive measures against volcanic disasters by residents.

Although Mt. Fuji is an active volcano, it is difficult to activate communicating risk concerning volcanic disasters because its frequency of eruptions is not high. Furthermore, there is a shortage of people who can take on the responsibility of regional disaster management due to the aging population and the increase in two-earner households. Therefore, online and face-to-face training tools using a disaster imagination game and a web application to learn about self-help, mutual aid, and public assistance in a workshop format were developed for developing next generation leaders in voluntary disaster reduction groups against volcanic disasters. The effectiveness of these tools was verified through feedback obtained from workshops, which were held on July 13, October 13, November 17, and December 15, 2021 and January 7, 2021 with participants of the citizens of Fujiyoshida City and students at the Yamanashi Prefecture Yoshida Senior High School, respectively. In FY2022, the training scenarios were added and revised so that they can be widely used by voluntary disaster reduction groups at the foot of Mt. Fuji, and to correspond to the March 2021 revision of the Mt. Fuji Hazard Map. Further improvements were made to the training tool to add game elements such as rankings and levels. The tool was made available on the server of the Mount Fuji Research Institute, Yamanashi Prefectural Government.
