Since 2018, the Keio Research Institute at SFC has been collaborating with Higashikawa Town (Hokkaido), and Professor Masatoshi Tamamura of the Faculty of Policy Management and his research group are promoting the joint development of the "Higashikawa style leading the future program" in order to revitalize and internationalize the region, develop human resources who can play a role in social innovation, etc.
In 2022, they continued to advise on Higashikawa Town's shareholder system, which they jointly developed, and the research was conducted as part of the theme of ”creating a social system to realize a circular economy in the region”which is required by a local society and economy that can't avoid the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic. We identified key issues that need to be resolved in the future development of Higashikawa Town, and proposed a "Cultivate Eco-System (provisional name)"to promote a circular economy in the region as a measure to solve these issues.
